Apologies are in order...

Firstly, sorry for the long delay. Got caught up wasting time playing a lot of games since february such as Yakuza 3, God of War 3, Hokuto Musou (Fist of the North Star), Star Ocean 4 Int, White Knight Chronicles Int, Ace Attorney Investigations, etc. Most of that's out of the way now. That and a few minor contract jobs.

Secondly, I did not delete anyone's comments. Comments on posts older than 2 weeks or so have to be moderated to prevent spamming and I've not looked at the blog or my emails in a while. Those comments have been restored as of this post.

I'll try my best to reorganize everything and return to schedule ASAP.

  1. No worries. I'm eager to see more Kuuga, but life happens.

Thanks a bunch for the update though.

  2. I have faith in you guys. No doubt in my mind one day I'll watch Kuuga in it's entirety with your subs.

Like the Anon before me said; the update is highly appreciated. Even getting an update that you guys are still alive and kicking is good news.

  3. YOu had over a thousands fans checking this site damn near everyday for half a year, waiting for new Kuuga subs while you were playing video games...

You sir, are my hero. And I do not put a speck of sarcasm in that remake.

Also, Thank you for the update!

    ReplyDelete
  14. We'll have to wait another year until another group decides to pick Kuuga up, and starts subbing from episode 1, yet again. Then they'll be like 5 different versions of the first 10 episodes. :/

    ReplyDelete
  15. are the kuuga project continuing? or is it just gonna stpped at episode 12?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I am wondering the same thing. The apology is appreciated, but if you are ending the project then please let us know.

  19. btw: i liked to ask for softsubs.
Yeah, i know the pros and cons and can understand if subbers prefer to do hardsub for using more karaoke and effects or for saving their scripts of getting stolen, but besides that i am still prefering softsubs.
Especially you could use 2 subs on Kuuga: 1 with Grongi untranslated like you did, 2 with translation for those guys who want. Imho that would make your releases much cooler (if that's even possible ;))

  20. We're honestly never going to get any more Kuuga are we? Please just tell us the truth instead of posting once every few months apologizing for not subbing anymore. I loved your subs and want more very badly, but it doesn't seem like it's coming.

  24. Guys, don't worry, a better group has started subbing from 13. :)

    http://midnightcrewsubs.blogspot.com/

Time to ditch these losers, and get in bed with the new guys!

    ReplyDelete
  25. New group has started where SCS left off. Midnight Crew Subs. I won't link here, out of respect to SCS, but look them up. I think it is pretty obvious that SCS has dropped the project.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just forget it, new people are subbing Kuuga and doing it at a much faster rate so we don't have to wait for you to get your act together. Just keep the episodes you've already subbed up, lazy ass.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Links to other groups are fine but could you people keep the personal insults to yourselves please? We've not dropped anything but just didn't want to update until something was released again. You people have all the right in the world to "move on" to another group, it was never a lifetime membership...

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm the one that didn't post the link out of respect to you guys. I feel like you really did a great job, and released a lot of episodes. I wish that you had started were /m/subs left off, though, instead of retreading old territory. Because, at the end of the day, you only subbed 2 episodes that haven't been done before. In less than a week midnight crews has finished up to episode 19 from where SCS left off.

That's not to belittle your work. I think you did a great job with your project. I just wish that you had started from episode 10. That way it would have been that many more episodes completed after you burned out.

But it's not a matter of loyalty. It's just practicality. It was before the holidays when you announced, and eventually extended, your hiatus. It's been over 6 months with no releases. At this point, it just doesn't make any sense to assume that there's anything else coming out. Why would it take 6 months, more even, to release one episode?

So thank you for the great run. We all really appreciate it. Ignore the haters. And don't stress yourselves. It was a fun project, but it's in capable hands now. Thanks a lot!

  29. Fair enough but try not to make it sound like we dropped the show.

I know we haven't released anything in ages but trust me, if I dropped it, I'd say so.

Just because you don't see anything doesn't mean stuff isn't happening.

And hey, we're glad a speed sub group has picked it up, just goes to show that we (in some small way) revived enough interest in Kuuga for others to jump on it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I appreciate everything you've done, but on the other hand, you did a huuuuuggeee jerk move by just ignoring the commitment you had from fans, all these people pinning their hopes on you, just so you could play video games for half a year straight. That's horrible, dude, and just downright MEAN ontop of it. I'm sorry, but it had to be said.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Fair enough, I'll accept it was mean for a subgroup to not give you what you deserve at no cost though I'd like to point out a few things.

Just because I said I was playing games doesn't mean I was doing nothing but that.

I moved around the world. That includes setting things up again like a place to live and you know, a job to sustain myself.

I'm not a kid living with my parents with only school to worry about.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I believe it was /m/subs that really started Kuuga again. They subbed 10 episodes worth, and didn't complain when you stepped on their toes. They even offered to help.

If you do get back into the subbing game, why bother with Kuuga? It will be done soon. MCS is on episode 20 already. Why not start a new project? Or even better, why not offer to help them?

At this point, it's been so long, the series might as well be dropped. It will be done by another group, and you haven't had any releases in months.

Just out of curiosity, what were you a subgroup of?

    ReplyDelete
  33. That was a typo, I meant Sub(title) Group.

I was not trying to take sole credit for the interest in Kuuga nor is it my intention to come across as being that ignorant of others' work.

I can also say that I still haven't watched a single ep of /m/subs or were aware that they tried to contact me when we started.

I also didn't realise that fansubbing was a monopoly and that as soon as someone laid 'dibs' on something, everyone else had to clear off. If that was the case, we wouldn't have touched Kuuga at all since TV-N was the earliest sub of it I can remember.

On that note, I still don't see why one group doing speed subs of Kuuga means I have to stop doing what we have been.

I'll leave it at that before it turns into a flame war.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm not trying to flame, but... why continue a show that's already getting translated? Why not help bring another classic show to an audience that might otherwise never see it? Why even bother with Kuuga anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Because fansubbing isn't a business or a competition. People forget that fansubbing is just a hobby or at least should be.

I don't own anybody anything nor do I get much out of it other than a clap and a pat on the back when stuff goes well, and the grief that follows when I'm late. Quite similar to work in real life except I get paid in the latter case.

Let me put it this way, did you give up on school because other people go and some are better/faster/more dedicated than you? Do you stop playing games because someone else bought/played/completed the game before you?

I would hope the answer is no. This is a hobby that we do in our spare time. When we had the luxury, we released double episodes and other tidbits. When we didn't, well, that's that's where we are now.

And please, stop comparing us to a speed-sub group that is obviously focused on a different approach.

    ReplyDelete
  36. But fansubbing is supposed to be about bringing classic shows to an audience that otherwise would never have a chance to see it. If you see a group competently picking up where you left off, and you decide to carry on with the same project anyway, then you're doing it for NO OTHER REASON than to get a pat on the back. I just don't understand what the logic is. Why NOT work on a new show? Why waste the time on a show when no one's going to be downloading it. It's already obvious that your free time is so sparse that you can take an 8 month hiatus from subbing. So why utilize that time to work on a project that's already being completed?

To use your high school analogy: It would be like painting scenery for the school play when someone else already painted it, and then putting it on the stage a week after the play finished.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Have you ever tried frawing or writing a story? Someone else is most likely to have already done it before you but that doesn't stop you.

No, I don't do this for a pat on the back. We as a group are doing it for ourselves and decided, "Why not release on the internet since it's done?" It's this little thing called sharing.

If we drop this now and do something else because you said so, it stops being something I'm doing for my personal amusement and more like a job with a boss I have to pander to. What if someone else picks up our next project at 2 eps in? Move on again? The answer is no, what happens here is that the next project will inevitable get recieve less effort as to us, it'll always feel like the substitue series for what we started with.

Fansubbing is not a race, we don't stop just because someone else is faster or has done it before. If that were the case, we wouldn't have multiple groups for so many shows already out there.

And your analogy is flawed. You're saying that by the time we're done, the school play will have finished but Kuuga 'finished' in 2001. This is like taking photos and uploading them to Facebook or drawing pictures and uploading them to DeviantArt, you always have an audience and you do not have a schedule nor do you care that someone has done the same before you.

And what ties maintaining a personal blog; drawing leisure art; and fansubbing together? They're all hobbies and last thing that most people want is for others to tell them how to enjoy their hobby.

Now leave it, Kuuga isn't getting dropped and we're not doing another series because you prefer cleaned up HKs to getting actual translations.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Fair enough. Enjoy finishing your show. Maybe we'll see a new project from you when you come back from hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why would you attack MCS? That seems rather petty.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sorry, that wasn't meant to come off as an attack. Maybe it was the constant pressure from the previous comments.

MCS have pretty much said that they're just working off HKs so I thought that was a given ( http://midnightcrewsubs.blogspot.com/2010/07/obligatory-who-we-are-post.html#comments ) and merely pointed that out.

I'm just trying to say, they're working from another translation and we're working from the japanese, so I treat our Kuugas as being different enough to co-exist. Don't get me wrong, cleaned up HKs are good when alternatives don't exist but I wouldn't have thought that'd be the signal to stop all work on a direct from maiden language sub...

    ReplyDelete
  41. MCS isn't cleaning up HK scripts. Just using them for timing. Translation is all done by an actual translator. They work on Stronger or Super-1 next.

    ReplyDelete
  42. you know that for sure? do you work for them? cuz this says otherwise http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/5089/hkmcs.jpg
